In June 2005 four Navy SEALs fast-roped from a helicopter and embarked on a reconnaissance and direct action mission along the mountainous Pakistan border of Afghanistan.  Only one member of the ill-fated mission lived.  This is the story of how that man survived and the heroism of his fellow team members who died.

While reading the book you learn about the in-depth training that a Navy SEAL undergoes to prepare him for dangerous missions, how SEAL team-mates interact with and depend on one another, and how they fight in combat.

You will also learn of the harsh environmental conditions that our Soldiers and Sailors endure in combat in an inhospitable land far from our shores.  Luttrell's four-man team would fight a ferocious battle, killing many of the enemy in the process, but would ultimately lose.  Luttrell just barely escaped alive.  The story of his rescue is amazing.
